About Murrells Inlet

Murrells Inlet Marshwalk...

South Carolina's Low Country

Murrells Inlet is a Historic and Storied Fishing Village and is considered to be the Seafood Capital of South Carolina.  Rich in History and Natural beauty, Murrells Inlet

was frequented in the early 1600's by Bands of Pirates including the Infamous Edward Teach better known as Blackbeard. These early Pirates used the protected harbor and the abundance of Shrimp, Oysters and other Shellfish as a backdrop to "Eat, Drink and be Merry".

In the 1700 & 1800's large land tracks were cultivated for Rice Plantations. South Carolina rice was generally accepted as being the finest rice. Large quantities were shipped to England and Europe. During the Civil War, Union Ships patrolled the Waters to stop Confederate Blockade- Runners who were smuggling cotton, rice and other products to England in exchange for War materials and other Supplies.

In the early 1900's, Commercial and Recreational Fishing, Shrimping and Oystering were becomming a mainstay of the Inlet. Today, the Fishing Industry is still active and

of Course, Seafood Restaurants are plentiful. Low Country Cuisine and Food for every taste is available in casual laid back Restaurants or Elegant upscale Restaurants with award winning Chefs.

Enjoy an Evening of Dining, Entertainment and relaxing on the "Marshwalk" which runs along the Waterfront !
